environmental policy

It seems that you can't open a newspaper or turn on the television these days without seeing another headline about climate change!

It's easy to be overwhelmed by the enormity of the problem and wonder ‘what difference can I make’.

At Pink Impression we have set ourselves on the path of becoming as environmentally friendly as we can.

As one of the steps along the way in 2003 we were awarded the coveted ISO 14001 environment management systems award. We were one of the first printers in the country to achieve this status!

We continually examine every aspect of the business supply chain to ensure that we are buying from suppliers with the same ethos.

For example all our ink is based on clean vegetable oil and supplied in eco-friendly packaging. Plus we have on site mixing technology which allows us to mix colours as required to pin point accuracy making our waste close to zero!

All our paper is sourced from European Union FSC grade forests where more trees are planted for the future than are felled each year. This exacting standard is seen in the industry as the Gold Standard for responsible husbandry of forests. Indeed in the last year alone our suppliers planted many thousands of extra trees on our behalf!!

All our paper is processed using Elemental Chlorine Free technology to avoid the production of damaging toxins.

Of course, we could buy cheaper! Using paper produced from trees felled from virgin rainforest and processed in ways which poison rivers and kill people!

Some of our competitors do and it would save money. But we believe that is not what you, our customers, want or expect from Pink Impression and it's not something we could be comfortable with.

The same goes for our stand against Recycled Paper. Whilst re-using paper to make Newsprint and Packaging is environmentally sound, we re-use every surplus piece we produce, recycled paper just makes no sense at all. It is nothing more than hype pedalled by marketeers rather than people with a real interest in protecting our planet.

Until every newspaper and every piece of packaging is made from
re-used material there is simply no logic in trying to clean 'dirty paper' back into pristine white sheets.

That's why we are proud to say the you will find no further mention of recycled paper in our catalogue!

Our 'Green Zeal' is just as much in evidence when it comes to our use of electricity. After a top to bottom review by the Carbon Trust we have been implementing a number of energy saving solutions, from lights which turn themselves off when the sun shines, to motors which run up to 70% more efficiently.

Plus after successful trials we are investing more this year in our Solar Panel array.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed but at least you now know of one way that you can ‘make a difference.’
